Fantasy Football: Who to Start, Who to Sit in Week 13
It’s almost that time of the year again, the Fantasy Football playoffs are one week away. It all comes down to this. All you have been working for could come to an end this week. Here’s some advice to help you conquer this week and get into the playoffs or help secure not coming in last!
QB:
Start: Ryan Tannehill
Tannehill has been playing red-hot as of late and has a great matchup this week against the dreadful Jets secondary. He is passing the ball efficiently and finding a new weapon in the form of rook wideout Jarvis Landry. He is also playing the Jets. J-E-T-S. Oh by the way in case you didn’t see me mention it already, he’s playing the JETS.
Start: Eli Manning
Eli Manning is quietly having a productive season if you discount his 5 interception explosion against the 49ers. His completion percentage is high and he’s tossing touchdowns to his new weapon, Odell Beckham Jr. This week Manning and the Giants take on the Jags. Both teams are playing for pride at this point but look for the Giants and Manning to separate themselves from the weaker competition.
Sit: Cam Newton
Newton and the Panthers are coming off a bye and looking to have a bounce back week this week against the Minnesota Vikings on the road. Newton seems therefore to be a solid play, but don’t let theses circumstances fool you. His offensive line is a disaster, and it’s starting a RT, Mike Remmers, who has bounced from practice squad to practice squad. Yikes. Minnesota is underrated against QBs, and Cam Newton should have a disappointing fantasy performance.

RB:
Start: Tre Mason
Even semi-crowded backfields make me a bit uneasy but that’s not the case this week with Tre Mason. Mason is coming off two relatively strong performances and has assumed control over the Saint Louis backfield. This week he is matched up against the Oakland Raiders who are infamous for being gashed by running backs. Look for Mason to continue the trend in week 13.
Start: LeGarrette Blount
Oh gosh, I’m probably going to regret this pick as a start, but hey as they say: you’ve got to risk it for the biscuit. The Patriots are always annoying with their running back situation switching from tailback to tailback weekly, frustrating fantasy owners everywhere. This week they go up against a relatively porous Green Bay run defense that should allow for one of their running backs to have a big week. I’m betting that it will be LeGarrette Blount, but it just as easily could be Jonas Gray. Start one of them as a FLEX only.
Sit: Trent Richardson
For all those who are unaware, T-Rich is not the starting back in Indianapolis. A guy by the name of Dan Herron is. So for the 86.1% of fantasy owners (NFL.com leagues) that own him, relegate him to the bench. Pick up Herron if he is available in your league. If not try to snag a potential starter like Matt Asiata.

WR:
Start: Josh Gordon
Gordon proved to all of his doubters last week that he has come back to the league ready to play. He is a target monster who has elite NFL talent. This should be a no-brainer but just in case, start him in all formats.
Start: Jarvis Landry
Jarvis Landry has really been playing well as of late and is one of the latest examples of this year’s legendary draft class. Look for him to exploit a favorable matchup this week against the Jets and accumulate about 70 yards and a TD. Play him as a WR2 or FLEX.
Sit: Larry Fitzgerald
He has a great matchup this week against the awful Atlanta Falcons defense. However, he is attempting to play though a knee injury and has not really displayed good chemistry with quarterback Drew Stanton all year. Look for Michael Floyd to get most of the production out of the WRs and for Fitzgerald to have a disappointing fantasy day.
TE:
Start: Larry Donnell
Donnell has been inconsistent this year, which has frustrated his fantasy owners. This week he goes up against a Jaguars defense that is not very good. Look for the Giants to find a way into the red zone several times and to target Donnell for at least one touchdown, possibly more.
Start: Coby Fleener
Fleener was a major disappointment last week after a huge performance two weeks ago. He has a good skill set as a receiver especially in the red zone and has established consistency with Andrew Luck dating back to their Stanford days. Look for the former Cardinal to have a bounce back week and find a way to end up with a decent fantasy day.
Sit: Julius Thomas
Julius Thomas is questionable as of now to play. Due to his lack of ability to practice all week, my guess is he won’t play. Even if he does suit up, he would only be a viable threat in the red zone. He is just too risky too leave in your line up too as he is a game time decision for a Sunday night game. Sit Orange Julius this week and cross your fingers that he comes back healthy next week.
D/ST:
Start: Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals are playing the Bucs this week. ‘Nuff said.
Sit: Green Bay Packers
The Packers are matched up this week against the Patriots. The Patriots are just on fire and have been lighting up opposing defenses. This week should be no different as this game should be a shoot out. Look for a lot of points scored on Green Bay with not many turnovers.
