One & Done Candidates For This NCAAB Season

One and dones in college basketball have been very common for teams like Kentucky and Duke in the past few years.  But there are some new teams that have players who are going to most likely leave after their first campaign.   This is a list of the top five freshman who will most likely pack their bags and leave for the NBA after one year in school.

Ben Simmons (LSU)

After leading his high school, Monteverde Academy, to a High School national championship, the college basketball world was shocked when ESPN 100 number one recruit in the class of 2015, Ben Simmons, announced he would be attending Louisiana State University for the 2015-2016 school year.  Averaging 28 points per game his senior year at Monteverde, the Australian power forward has already been considered by many as the best player in college basketball this year without playing one game.  His ball handling and scoring abilities along with his 6’9″ frame has NBA Scouts drooling.   Look for this kid to not only win the James Naismith Award (Best Player in College Basketball), but also be a top five pick in the 2016 NBA draft.

Skal Labissiere (Kentucky)

No surprise here.  John Calipari gets another top recruit in trying to win his second national championship at Kentucky.  Ranked number two in ESPN’s top 100 in the class of 2015, the 6’10” Labissiere is considered as the number one pick in the 2016 NBA Draft according to Draftexpress.com.   Labissiere has already been compared to former Kentucky big men and number one picks Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns.  Coach Cal has said to Kentuckysportsradio.com “for us to be what we can be as a team, Skal needs to have a presence.”  Watch for Labissiere to develop over the season and be more comfortable in Calipari’s system and be a tough matchup for opponents come March.

Jaylen Brown (California-Berkely) 

After a 18-15 season, second year coach Cuonzo Martin has assembled what many say a top 10 roster in sports according to CBSSports.com. The 6’7″ forward from Georgia is a big reason for that.  Jaylen will add a lot to this team with his scoring ability and athleticism.  He will fit well into Cal’s system because Cal likes to push the tempo and Brown is very good in the open floor and has great finishing ability.  In order for Cal to make a deep run this year, Brown will be depended on to score and create opportunities for his teammates in transition.  If that happens, Cal has a really good shot of making it to the Final Four.

Brandon Ingram (Duke)

Already drawing comparisons to Kevin Durant, Brandon Ingram is going to be depended on to score a lot on an already loaded Duke Blue Devils team.  With his 6’10” frame, Ingram will be an inside outside player for Coach Mike Krzyzewski.  Ingram is no stranger to winning championships. At Kinston High School in Kinston, North Carolina, Ingram won four state championships and as a senior averaged a double double in recording 24 points and 11 rebounds per game.  If Duke wants to repeat as champions of college basketball, Ingram is going to have to step up in crunch time and be a consistent scorer for the Blue Devils.

Ivan Rabb (California-Berkeley)

No, that is not a typo.  Coach Cuonzo Martin has another freshman who has potential to be a top pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.  The 6’11” power forward from Oakland, California will be a matchup nightmare for opponents.  Rabb is more of a point forward than a power forward.  He has great athleticism and is a great finisher in the paint.  Rabb can also handle the ball just as well if not better than most college point guards.  His ability to create his own shot is a key part to his game.  Look for Rabb to be a force early and often for the Golden Bears
