The US Mens National Team has struggled since making it out of the Group of Death in Brazil. The u23 team failed to qualify for the upcoming Olympics and the Senior team failed to win the Gold Cup on home soil. Even with these recent struggles the future is bright for the team because of one person: Christian Pulisic.
Pulisic who is from Hershey, Pennsylvania signed for Borussia Dortmund when he was just 16. Pulisic impressed the coaches at Dortmund and he was called up to the first team over the winter. He has played in 5 matches so far for the Dortmund first team.
Pulisic stood out in the clubs training in the Dubai this past winter featuring in both friendlies they played in. He also scored this goal against the leaders of the South Korean league.
Recently in the USMNT World Cup Qualifying match against Guatemala in Columbus Pulisic made his debut. This makes him cap-tied for the US meaning he can now only play for the US. Pulisic will hopefully impress at Dortmund and start to consistently make the 18 match squad. but don’t expect him to breakout just yet.
At the moment he is not yet in the best 23 US players, but do not be surprise if Klinsmann selects him for the Copa America Centenario team to allow him to get more experience with the US team. The talented young midfielder is more about the future and what he can bring to the team. In an ideal world he becomes a world superstar but that is rather unlikely. What is more likely to happen is what happened to Julian Green.
Green has made appearances for the USMNT, including his goal in the World Cup, but has been playing with the Bayern Munich second team for the past two seasons. Green has a lot of ability but he needs time to grow and mature.
It is very good that Pulisic and Green have made it with top teams in Europe because the best US players need to play in the strongest leagues. At the moment the strongest leagues are in Europe and not MLS.
Expect to see Pulisic with the USMNT at the 2018 World Cup and become a top US player in the years following that. All in all, Pulisic is among many other players who should provide a bright and promising future for the USMNT.
